SEGD European Tour 2011

by Sander Baumann. Average Reading Time: about 2 minutes.

SEGD will introduce itself in Amsterdam, Berlin, Lisbon, and London during the 2011 SEGD European Tour October 12–19. Following our successful Minding the Gap symposium in London last year, the tour is designed to expand SEGD’s international community, increase awareness of SEGD, create alliances with European design organizations, and promote cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural exchange.

SEGD European Tour 2011

SEGD (Society for Environmental Graphic Design)

SEGD is an global community of people working in the field of wayfinding, graphic design, signage, interior / design and communication for the build environment. The members of the organization are consultants, designers, idea makers and manufactures who are working together and sharing their knowledge.

The European Tour will be marked as introduction for the SEGD and how this unique combination of members drive expertise and inspiration in an international network. Join one of the events in the European Tour to interact and learn more about the SEGD.

To clarify SEGD favors the use of environmentally friendly products and processes but is not an environmental organization.

European motivation

Our Minding the Gap symposium in September 2010 was a great success and we saw the value in engaging people in what SEGD is about,” says Alex Wood, principal of Holmes Wood (London) and chair of the SEGD Board of Directors’ International Expansion Committee. “We believe that European designers can benefit from the resources and knowledge base SEGD provides and, at the same time, SEGD’s members from other parts of the world can learn from their European counterparts.”

We are all enriched when we share our stories and our experiences. No doubt the SEGD community will be strengthened as we better understand the diversity of approaches and philosophies found in Europe,” says David Gibson, FSEGD, managing director of Two Twelve (New York) and a past SEGD president. Gibson and Wood are co-chairs of the European Tour.

European cities

In each city, SEGD is partnering with designers and national and local design organizations. Local guest speakers will present current projects while Wood and Gibson will introduce attendees to environmental graphic design, SEGD, and the SEGD Design Awards, and encourage dialogue between SEGD and the local design communities.
